FROM THE INTRODUCTION
Though the Bible itself is a well-known book there remains many things within its pages that are not well known -- things that have been overlooked or misunderstood. Sometimes nuggets of truth are buried just beneath the surface which with a little digging can be discovered! That's what this book is all about.
There are over one thousand (1022) questions in the New Testament and over two thousand (2272) in the Old Testament. Some of the most outstanding Biblical passages were given in answer to questions -- the message to Nicodemus about being born again (Jn. 3) Christ's prophecy on the Mount of Olives (Mt. 24) Peter's message on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2) and Paul's teaching on marriage (1 Cor. 7).
Some of the questions we will discuss are these: Where did Cain get his wife? Did it take 120 years to build the Ark? Did Noah pronounce a curse on Ham? What woman's age is mentioned in the Bible and why? Who was the Ethiopian wife of Moses?
When the Israelites came out of Egypt were they all healed? Did they wear miracle clothing for forty years that would not wear out? Why did Balaam want them to be involved in ritual prostitution?
What are the "lost" books of the Bible? How does the Koran the sacred book of the Muslim world explain the conception of Jesus Christ?
When Jonah refused to go to Nineveh why did he choose Tarshish instead? After killing a thousand Philistines did Sampson drink water out of a jawbone? Did Deliah cut off Sampson's hair? Did ravens or Arabians feed the prophet Elijah? What did Jeremiah mean when he spoke of a "speckled bird"?
What is the meaning of the number 153 -- the number of fish that Peter caught? Was Judas Iscariot the son of Peter? Did Jesus fall beneath His cross? Was the crucifixion on a hill? Was it from the Mount of Olives that Jesus ascended to heaven?
Along with the serious doctrinal studies I made a decision to include a bit of humor here and there. Some sanctimonious individuals may not like this but as I heard a preacher say years ago"Some people have a face so long they could suck marbles out of a gopher hole"! Let's not be like that!. . . . After all "a merry heart does good" and "maketh a cheerful countenance" (Pro. 17:22; 15:13).
Jesus spoke of a man who"brings forth out of his treasure things new and old" (Mt. 15:32). So here the underlying theme will be the grand old story of Jesus and His love but also there will be many new truths that will come to light. In a comparatively short time you will be able to read things that I have come to know only through years of study and involvement in the ministry. May the Lord bless you as you pursue these amazing discoveries within the Book of books.
